Fisher-Price recalls 2.1 million swings after 5 infants died

• The reported deaths occurred in infants 1–3 months old, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. In most of the cases, the infants were unrestrained in the swing and bedding was added to the product so it could be used for sleeping.
• The swings, which are no longer on the market, were sold at Amazon, Toys R Us, Walmart/Sam's Club and Target from 2010 to January 2024 for about $160.

The big picture: The swings are not meant for sleeping, which can increase the risk of suffocation, the Safety Commission said in a press release.

• The Safety Commission urged customers to remove the headrest and "body support insert" before continuing to use the swing.
• Fischer-Price will offer a $25 refund to those who follow the instructions.

By the numbers: 2.1 million swings have been sold in the U.S. since 2010.

• An additional 99,000 swings were sold in Canada and about 500 in Mexico.
