FBI warns of possible threats ahead of Oct. 7 anniversary

• The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security said the anniversary "may be a motivating factor for violent extremists and hate crime perpetrators to engage in violence or threaten public safety."

Driving the news: Earlier Friday, bomb threats later deemed non-credible were reported at synagogues across New York, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul.

• An increased police presence in New York will stay in place at least through the anniversary of the Oct. 7 terror attacks, she said.
• "Recognizing the potential for disruptions during this time of year, I had already directed the New York State Police to coordinate with local law enforcement to ensure the safety of all communities," the governor said.

What they're saying: "These threats are horrific and unacceptable — and targeting houses of worship on one of the holiest days of the Jewish calendar is particularly craven," Hochul said.

• "We will not tolerate acts of antisemitism or attempts to incite fear. New Yorkers stand united against all forms of hate and violence," she added.
