New York Gov. Kathy Hochul determined to help Democrats flip House

• "I knew, as someone who had been elected to every level of government, the state party could help people get elected to their town council and their county legislature and build the farm team that you need to be able to have good vetted candidates for higher up," she said at Axios' DNC reception.

Zoom in: Hochul is a part of an effort to get Democrats elected in competitive House races in New York, including by organizing on Long Island where Republicans hold power in an otherwise blue state.

• "I already picked up one — Tom Suozzi. I'm putting that in my win column," she said.

• Rep. Suozzi (D-N.Y.) famously won a high-profile special election in February to fill the seat vacated by former Rep. George Santos' expulsion.
