Senate GOP campaign arm nearly matches Dems for August fundraising

The National Republican Senatorial Committee raised more than $19.1 million in August with $44 million on hand — nearly matching their Democratic counterpart, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: Republican leaders raised alarm about Democrats' fundraising lead and the impact of down-ballot transfers from the Harris-Walz campaign. GOP senators then committed millions of dollars.

NRSC has now raised over $200 million — a record at this point in the cycle, according to a source familiar with NRSC strategy.

By the numbers: Spending is officially in overdrive with the GOP campaign arm dumping $26.5 million into several close races last month as they seek to win back the majority. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spent $31.5 million, as they defend several vulnerable incumbents.

DSCC raised $19.2 million in August and has $47 million on hand, according to their FEC filings.
The GOP arm is trying to get more bang for its buck by partnering with individual campaigns on hybrid ads, which come at a lower cost, according to the source.
The goal is to help GOP challengers keep up, despite many Democratic incumbents and challengers having more cash to spare.

Zoom in: NRSC is spending heavily on TV ads in Michigan and Nevada, the source said.

McConnell-backed Senate Leadership Fund is focusing its mega budget on Montana, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Meanwhile, the conservative Club for Growth PAC is spending most in Arizona, Nevada and Texas.
