Scoop: Jeffries-tied super PAC drops more cash on Trump districts

A super PAC closely tied to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) is pouring money into two Republican-held House districts that former President Trump won in 2020, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: It's the latest sign that House Democrats are bullish about their chances of unseating GOP incumbents with Vice President Kamala Harris at the top of the ticket.

House Majority PAC is reserving $1.1 million for ads in Iowa's 1st District, which is held by Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and voted for Trump by more than 3 percentage points.
They are also putting $400,000 into Wisconsin's 3rd District, which is held by Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.) and went for Trump by 6 points in 2020.

Zoom out: Since President Biden withdrew his re-election bid, Democrats have increasingly been setting their sights on a set of Republican-held districts that are rated as "lean Republican" by Cook Political Report.

That includes Iowa's 1st and 3rd districts, as well as Virginia's 2nd District, where HMP announced new ad reservations this month.
"Democrats across the country have never been more fired up and well positioned to retake the majority as we continue to see record-breaking enthusiasm and energy behind their campaigns," said HMP President Mike Smith.

The other side: "We're confident that Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Derrick Van Orden will win," said Courtney Parella, a spokesperson for Republican-aligned PAC Congressional Leadership Fund.
