Oprah hits the campaign trail for Kamala Harris with livestream event

State of play: The Harris campaign has had no shortage of big-name surrogates from the entertainment industry.

• Oprah previously spoke in support of Harris at the Democratic National Convention last month — alongside a long lineup of other celebrities including Stevie Wonder and Mindy Kaling.
• The Harris campaign has also been bolstered by a series of zoom rallies which boasted appearances by celebrities like actor Jeff Bridges, filmmaker J.J. Abrams and pop star Pink.
• At an Atlanta rally this summer, Harris was joined by rappers Megan Thee Stallion and Quavo.

• Perhaps her biggest endorsement to date came earlier this month from Taylor Swift — which appeared to ruffle former President Trump's feathers.

Between the lines: Democratic campaigns dating back to Barack Obama's have tried to balance the attention boost that comes from featuring high-profile surrogates with concerns that leaning too heavily on celebrities could make them appear out of touch.
