Jordan Chiles appeals ruling that revoked her Olympic bronze medal

• U.S. Gymnastics said in a media statement Monday that it had made "a collective, strategic decision" to have Chiles lead the initial filing and it was "closely coordinating" with the Olympian and her lawyers "and will make supportive filings with the court in the continued pursuit of justice" for her.

Driving the news: Chiles initially placed fifth behind two Romanian gymnasts, but an inquiry regarding the difficulty of one of her moves saw her score was raised by a tenth of a point and she clinched bronze.

• However, the CAS sided with Romanian officials, who argued that the U.S. on-floor appeal had been filed four seconds after the one-minute time limit.

What they're saying: "CAS violated Chiles's fundamental 'right to be heard' by refusing to consider the video evidence that showed her inquiry was submitted on time — in direct contradiction to the findings in CAS's decision," according to the attorneys' statement.

• They added that "the entire CAS proceeding was unfair because Chiles was not properly informed" that the revoking panel's president Hamid Gharavi "had a serious conflict of interest."

• This was because "Gharavi has acted as counsel for Romania for almost a decade and was actively representing Romania at the time of the CAS arbitration," the attorneys said.
• "Given these undeniable deficiencies, Chiles asks the Federal Supreme Court to reinstate the score that she rightfully earned at the floor event final."

What we're watching: Chiles' attorneys said they're preparing to present evidence to the court including the "video footage showing that her coach's scoring inquiry was submitted on time."
