Chicago office workers stayed home during the Democratic National Convention last week, according to Kastle Systems' office swipe data.
Why it matters: In the new work reality, employees have the flexibility to avoid the office when the commute gets nasty due to big events.
Zoom in: It was more difficult to get around the city during the DNC with street closures, etc., says Kastle's executive chairman Mark Ein who was in town for the event.
Office occupancy took a similar dive in Austin earlier this year during the week of the South by Southwest festival.
