Dr. Anthony Fauci was hospitalized for six days with West Nile virus, multiple news outlets reported on Saturday. He is now recovering at home.

The big picture: Fauci, 83, is one of the country's foremost experts on infectious diseases. He is the former longtime director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, served as President Biden's chief medical adviser, and played a prominent role in the government response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
