Walz accepts vice presidential debate invite

Vice President Harris' running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said Wednesday that he's accepted an invitation for an Oct. 1 vice presidential debate.

The big picture: The CBS debate will be the first time Walz and former President Trump's running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, go face-to-face — that is, if the latter accepts the invite.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.

What they're saying: "Governor Walz looks forward to debating JD Vance -- if he shows up," the Harris campaign said in a statement.

"See you on October 1, JD," Walz said on X.

Zoom in: CBS News said it provided four dates as options to the candidates for a debate in New York City.

The vice presidential debate was originally to be in July or August before President Biden dropped out of the race, propelling Harris from VP candidate to presidential.
