The Democratic National Committee on Monday is launching its first ad blitz since Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz (Minn.) officially became the party's presidential and VP nominees.
Why it matters: One of those ads is a billboard on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada, a splashy reminder that Democrats are making a play for the state that Republicans thought they had in the bag.
- The DNC says it is launching more than 80 billboards, which will run in English and Spanish, in and around the major metropolitan areas in the swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
- Cities on the list include Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Milwaukee, Asheville and Grand Rapids.
- The billboards will feature an image of Harris and Walz that says, "Fighting for you," next to an image of former President Trump and Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) that says "Out for themselves."
The big picture: Harris, buoyed by the jolt of energy in her party following President Biden's decision to withdraw from the race, is eying a broader path to victory in November, including through the Sun Belt states.
- Recent polling has shown Harris erasing the lead that Trump had over Biden in some of the swing states.
- With less than one week until the Democratic National Convention, Democrats are aggressively working to introduce the new ticket to voters, particularly in the swing states that could determine November.
- "The DNC is blanketing the battlegrounds with a clear message: Vice President Harris and Governor Tim Walz are fighting for working people, and Donald Trump and JD Vance are only out for themselves," DNC Deputy Communications Director Abhi Rahman said in a statement.
