Hogan Gidley to consult for Speaker Johnson

Hogan Gidley — a former Trump official, and frequent pro-Trump voice on TV news — has contracted with Speaker Mike Johnson as a strategic political and communications consultant.

Why it matters: Gidley, who remains in former President Trump's orbit, can be a conduit from the speaker's office to Trump's campaign, and vice versa.

Between the lines: Gidley, who got his start in politics in his native South Carolina, will advise both the speaker's political and official offices.

We're told Johnson wants to help synthesize a unified Republican message up and down the ticket, and to amplify Trump's record heading into November.

The backstory: Gidley is a senior adviser at the America First Policy Institute, which is stocked with past (and potentially future) Trump officials. He is vice chair of the group's Center for Election Integrity.

Gidley was principal deputy press secretary in the Trump White House, and national press secretary for Trump's 2020 re-election campaign.
He previously worked for Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, and Elizabeth Dole.
