14-year-old Australian wins women's park skateboarding

A stellar final round from Australian Arisa Trew allowed the 14-year-old to grab the gold medal in women's park skateboarding, finishing ahead of Japan's Cocona Hiraki and Britain's Sky Brown, who both matched their medal results from Tokyo.

Why it matters: The sport features some of the Olympics' youngest competitors, some of whom aren't yet teenagers.

Driving the news: Trew's 93.18 in the final round put the pressure on the remaining skaters. Brown — a crowd favorite — who had been sitting third, responded with an 92.31 to put herself into second. However, Hiraki upped her score on the final run, turning in a 92.63 to edge out Brown for silver.

American Bryce Wettstein finished 6th, just behind 13-year-old Heili Sirvio of Finland. Brazil's Dora Varella finished fourth, just off the podium.
Heading into the final run, Hiraki was in the lead, followed by Brown and Trew.
Defending gold medalist Sakura Yosozumi failed to make the finals, finishing the qualifying round in 10th, with only the top 8 making it to the evening's final. China's Zheng Haohao, the event's youngest competitor, finished the preliminary round in 18th.

The big picture: Skateboarding is one of several newer sports, including sport climbing, BMX and breaking that are part of an effort by Olympics organizers to make the sport younger, more diverse and more urban.
