Biden administration wants to ban airline fees for kids to sit with parents

• Airlines that don't guarantee adjacent seats for kids include Allegiant, Delta, Hawaiian, Southwest, Spirit and United, according to the Department of Transportation.

The big picture: DOT would require them to allow parents to sit next to children 13 and younger for free.

• "In situations where it is impossible to provide adjacent seating for multiple young children, airlines would be required to seat them across the aisle from, directly in front of, or directly behind the parent or accompanying adult," DOT said in a statement.

By the numbers: DOT says a family of four could save up to $200 roundtrip if the proposed rule takes effect.

The other side: Lobbying group Airlines For America said its members "make every effort to accommodate customers traveling together — especially those traveling with children. Each carrier has established individual policies, and all make every effort to ensure families sit together. A4A passenger carriers do not charge a family seating fee."
