Simone Biles, Team USA dominate to win gold in team gymnastics

• The U.S. took an early lead in a warm, packed and loud Bercy Arena after Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey all landed strong vaults. China and Italy were in second and third positions, respectively.
• The Americans continued the strong showing with three solid routines in uneven bars, extending their lead over Italy and China.
• Biles wrapped the evening to roaring applause, receiving a standing ovations as raucous cheers of "U-S-A" broke out throughout the arena.

State of play: Jordan Chiles fell as she began her beam routine, but recovered. her score of 12.733 was the lowest thus far for Team USA, but they had built a large lead over the rest of the field.

• Suni Lee helped the American team get back on solid footing, turning in a solid 14.600, with Biles stumbling a bit but recovering in her difficult routine, posting a 14.366.

• Great Britain and Canada, meanwhile, passed China during the third rotation.

By the numbers: First up on floor exercise, Lee kicked things off with a 13.533 score.

• Jordan Chiles scored a 13.966. Simone Biles scored a 14.666.

What's next: The U.S. women will return for the individual all-around competition on Thursday.
