The real-life drama surrounding the 2024 presidential election — and some fictional similarities — are driving a massive viewership spike for HBO's "Veep."
"Veep" had 2.2 million total minutes watched on July 22, compared to the day before when 486,000 total minutes were watched, Lumuinate found.
Max didn't immediately respond to Axios' request for comment on the increase in viewership.
Between the lines: The "Veep" bump in viewership follows a similar surge to the Netflix adaption of Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance's memoir "Hillbilly Elegy."
"Hillbilly Elegy" was No. 5 on Netflix Tuesday, more than a week after he became Trump's running mate.
The paperback version of Vance's book was the No. 1 best seller on Amazon while the hardcover was No. 4, a drop from No. 2 a week ago.
Zoom in: Clips of "Veep" have gone viral on X since President Biden dropped out of the race Sunday.
In season 2, Meyer learned the president wouldn't seek re-election and decides to run for president.
"Don't forget we made all that up, though," Armando Iannucci, the show's creator, wrote on X in response to a comment about "Veep."
"There are bits of it that are actually quite accurate," Harris said of the comedy that ended in 2019 after seven seasons.
"I'm going to talk to Julia later about whether she liked being VP or President better," Biden joked at a 2023 ceremony honoring Louis-Dreyfus and other National Medal of Arts recipients.
