Biden campaign admits "slippage" but says he will "absolutely" remain in race

• Top Democrats told Axios' Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen that they believed mounting pressure on Biden, who tested positive for COVID this week, could push him to decide to drop out of the presidential race, as soon as this weekend.

What they're saying: Jen O'Malley Dillon, chair of the Biden campaign, told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Friday that Biden is "absolutely" remaining in the race, adding that "he is the best person to take on Donald Trump."

• "The American people know the president is older. They see that. They knew that before the debate," she said. "Yes, of course we have a lot of work to do to make sure we are reassuring the American people that, yes, he's old, and he can do the job and he can."
• She said the slippage in support "has been a small movement."

The big picture: Several recent polls have shown that majorities across multiple groups, including Democrats, believe Biden should bow out of the race.

• Other polling has suggested that in general Democrats would be satisfied if Vice President Kamala Harris were nominated in his place.
