Scoop: House Democrats scrap letter opposing early DNC vote

• Rep. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) told Axios the letter is being scrapped after party officials said earlier on Wednesday that the virtual roll call would not be held before August.
• "We've achieved what we wanted here," Huffman said in a phone interview, adding that he had "dozens of members" signing the letter and "I think that pressure helped a lot."
• "There were also very high-placed calls and conversations with the DNC," he added.

By the numbers: The letter, which was set to be open for signatures until the end of the day on Wednesday, had "north of 30" signatures as of Wednesday morning, according to a lawmaker familiar with the matter.

• Among the members who had signed the letter: Reps. Susan Wild (D-Pa.), Pat Ryan (D-N.Y.), Mike Quigley (D-Ill.), Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), Jake Auchincloss (D-Mass.) and Mike Levin (D-Calif.).

What to watch: Huffman said it is "great news that they are not going to try to jam this through on Friday or next week or anytime in the month of July, and, for now, that's a win," but "we will continue to see how this evolves."

• "I remain skeptical about any need for a virtual roll call, but at least this gives us time to make our case and evaluate whatever legal merits they think might still apply," he added.
