Exclusive: Jim Jordan doubts Trump DOJ will pursue Biden

House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said during an Axios House event on Tuesday that he doubts a Trump Justice Department will launch an investigation into President Biden and his family.

Why it matters: As House Republicans' investigations into the Biden family have failed to build steam for an impeachment vote, some in the GOP have looked to a future Trump administration for retribution instead.

What he's saying: Asked by Axios' Alex Thompson if he expects a Trump DOJ to investigate Biden, Jordan said, "I don't know if that'll happen ... It sort of depends on what we may uncover."

"I don't think that's the plan. I think President Trump's going to be focused on securing the border, making sure the tax cuts stay in place and putting back in place common-sense energy policy," Jordan said.
Asked if he believes Biden or his family members have committed uncharged crimes, Jordan said: "I don't know that. I've said all along – I never said I was for moving forward on impeachment. What I've said is I think the case is compelling."

What to watch: Jordan said committees that have been investigating the Biden family's finances are "in the process of putting together a report" on its findings.

Jordan demurred when asked if he would currently vote to impeach Biden, saying the report will "lay out where potential impeachable offenses may, in fact, have occurred ... and I'll take a look at that."
