Text chains in Bidenworld lit up Friday with good news for a change: President Biden's campaign speech in Detroit was described as "fiery," "rousing" and "defiant."
Why it matters: On the heels of a disappointing debate, calls for Biden to end his reelection bid have intensified as the president feverishly tries to squelch concerns.
What they're saying: At Biden's Detroit appearance, the crowd chanted: "Don't you quit!" ... "Don't go, Joe!" ... and "We got your back!"
- When Biden referred to former President Trump, there were chants of "Lock him up!" — "which the president did not discourage. When he criticized news media coverage, big cheers followed, with his supporters turning to boo and point fingers at reporters," the N.Y. Times reports.
- Biden said "no, no, no" when supporters started booing the press. He referred to journalists as "good men and women" as he criticized post-debate coverage.
