Biden to ABC: "No indication of a serious condition"

• His interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos is part of a broader strategy — on display Friday at a rally in Madison, Wis. — to be more visible to voters, acknowledge his poor debate on June 27, and try to focus voters' attention on Trump.

Prodded by Stephanopoulous, Biden addressed a concern raised by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif), who said this week that after Biden's debate performance, it's "a legitimate question to say: Is this an episode, or is this a condition?"

• "It was a bad episode," Biden said. "No indication of any serious condition. I was exhausted."
• "I was sick. I was feeling terrible," he said. "I just had a really bad cold."
• Asked whether he watched his debate performance, Biden said, "I don't think I did. No."

• He also said that his performance was "nobody's fault but mine."

Driving the news: Earlier in the day, Biden insisted he will remain in the 2024 presidential race even as he faces criticism and calls to drop out from within the Democratic Party and even his own White House staff.

• "What's Joe going to do? Is he going to stay in the race?" Biden asked the enthusiastic audience in Madison. "Is he going to drop out, what's he going to do?"
• "Well, here's my answer: I am going to run, and I'm going to win again."
