Steve Bannon asks Supreme Court to help him avoid prison

• He's been appealing the conviction, and on Thursday a federal appeals court denied his bid to delay reporting to prison.
• The request for an administrative stay is to "allow for sufficient time to consider this matter," Bannon's lawyers wrote.

State of play: The high court previously granted emergency relief for defendants "under nearly identical procedural circumstances" to remain free until their appeals were completed, Bannon's lawyers argued.

• Bannon could serve his entire sentence before the Supreme Court can consider his case, they said. The four months of his sentence would fall during the court's summer recess.

Flashback: The Supreme Court in March rejected a similar bid from Peter Navarro, another former Trump adviser.

• Bannon's legal team, though, said his request differs from the previous one because it lacks procedural concerns present in Navarro's motion.
