Hamas released eight more hostages after reaching a last-minute agreement with Israel on Thursday to extend the pause in fighting in Gaza to a seventh day.

State of play: Negotiators are working to extend the humanitarian ceasefire further, but by late Thursday local time, it was unclear if another extension was likely.

  • The latest extension of the ceasefire came just minutes before the pause in fighting was set to end early Thursday.
  • The most recent release brings the total number of hostages freed to more than 100, including about two dozen foreign nationals.
  • Israel has released 240 Palestinian women and children from Israeli prisons.
