Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers tests positive for breakthrough COVID-19

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) has tested positive for COVID-19 despite being vaccinated, she disclosed Friday, using her announcement to renew calls for constituents to "talk to your doctor about getting the vaccine if you haven’t already.”

Driving the news: "Yesterday, despite being fully vaccinated, I tested positive for COVID-19," she wrote in a statement. "My symptoms are mild and I am quarantining at home and following CDC and local health guidelines."

She added that her district and national offices will remain open.

The big picture: The House of Representatives has been on recess this week, so her breakthrough case hasn't sparked concern about spreading the virus inside Congress.

Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), Angus King (I-Maine) and John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) tested positive in August after being fully vaccinated, in addition to some House lawmakers and aides.
An aide to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) also tested positive in July despite being vaccinated, after several members of a delegation of Democratic Texas lawmakers who visited the Capitol tested positive.
