5 missing after U.S. Navy helicopter crashes off San Diego coast
One person was rescued and five others were missing after a U.S. Navy helicopter crashed into the sea off the coast of San Diego on Tuesday.
Details: The U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet said in a statement that search and rescue operations were continuing "with multiple Coast Guard and Navy air and surface assets" following the crash.
- The MH-60S helicopter "embarked aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72)" and was conducting routine flight operations some 60 nautical miles from San Diego about 4:30pm local time when the crash happened, per the statement.
- It was not immediately clear how many people were on board. The Defense Department did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.
