NHL to investigate allegation Sharks' Kane bet on his team's games
The NHL announced Saturday evening it will investigate an allegation by hockey player Evander Kane’s wife that the San Jose Sharks left winger bet on his own games and deliberately tried to lose for gambling profit.
Driving the news: Anna Kane said in a since-deleted Instagram story: "How does the [NHL] let a compulsive gambling addict still play when he's obviously throwing games with bookies to win money? Hmm maybe someone needs to address this."
- In another post she stated, "Can someone ask [NHL commissioner] Gary Bettman how they let a player gamble on his own games? Bet and win with bookies on his own games?"
What they're saying: The National Hockey League said in a statement that it was aware of a social media post, by Anna Kane, that "bet on NHL games," saying "integrity of our game is paramount and the League takes these allegations very seriously."
- Kane in a statement on social media called the accusations false, and said he has never "gambled/bet on Hockey” or San Jose Sharks games, and that he has never purposefully lost a game. He added that he is “looking forward to cooperating fully” with the NHL’s investigation.
