Biden says it's his "expectation" to run for re-election in 2024

President Biden on Thursday said it's his "expectation" to run for re-election in 2024, and that he "would fully expect" Vice President Kamala Harris to be his running mate again.

Why it matters: There's been widespread speculation that Biden, 78, may only serve one four-year term, due to age or other reasons.

  • The president has not yet to set up a reelection campaign for a 2024 bid.

Yes, but: Biden did leave room for doubt, stating, "I'm a great respecter of fate. I've never been able to plan four and a half, three and a half years ahead for certain."

  • Biden added on his expectation to keep Harris, who was recently appointed to lead immigration reform for the administration, on his 2024 ticket, "She's doing a great job. She's a great partner."
  • When asked whether he thought he would face Trump again in 2024, Biden scoffed, saying, "Oh, I don't even think about it. I have no idea."
