Alabama passes law banning most abortions, eyes Roe v. Wade challenge

The Republican-dominated Alabama House of Representatives voted 74-3 on Tuesday to pass a bill that would ban nearly all abortions in the state.

Why it matters: Bill co-sponsor state Rep. Terri Collins (R) said she intended to eventually challenge Roe v. Wade in the Supreme Court. Alabama is the latest conservative state to pass a bill designed to restrict abortion measures. If Alabama's bill were to become legal, it would be a felony to perform an abortion on a woman at any stage of her pregnancy.
