The McCain Institute issued a lengthy fact sheet on John McCain Wednesday in an apparent response to President Trump's attacks on the late senator — but the commander-in-chief shows no sign of stopping.
Details: As the think-tank, which operates in partnership with Arizona State University, published the piece on McCain's record, Trump increased his attacks on the senator and his policies during a visit to the tank factory in Lima, Ohio.
What he's saying: "I endorsed him at his request, and I gave him the kind of funeral he wanted, which as president I had to approve," he said. "I don't care about this. I didn't get a thank-you. That's OK. We sent him on the way. But I wasn't a fan of John McCain."
The other side: A a growing number of Republicans have come to the defense of McCain, including Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), chairman of the Veteran Affairs Committee, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and Sen. Martha McSally, who was appointed to McCain's former seat.
