NBC to live-stream Olympics coverage in VR

NBC will live-stream over 50 hours of the 2018 Winter Olympics in virtual reality to pay-TV subscribers in the U.S., Variety reports. Coverage will include the opening and closing Olympic ceremonies as well as some sports, like ice skating and hockey.

Why it matters: It's the first time Olympics VR content will be available to pay-TV subscribers in the U.S. in real time. It's also the first time Winter Olympics coverage will be available in VR. Dozens of hours of Rio Olympics coverage was available in VR in 2016 but it was delivered after it aired live.
