President Trump tweeted Tuesday that he had spoken with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, who denied any knowledge of what happened to missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
"Just spoke with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia who totally denied any knowledge of what took place in their Turkish Consulate. He was with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during the call, and told me that he has already started, and will rapidly expand, a full and complete investigation into this matter. Answers will be forthcoming shortly."
Why it matters: Trump continues to appear willing to accept the denials of the Saudi royal family, much like he did when asked about Russia's hacking of the U.S. election during his June summit with Vladimir Putin. Secretary of State Pompeo is expected to fly to Ankara tomorrow to speak with Turkish officials about the Khashoggi investigation, per State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert.
