Former President Trump and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) shake hands in Charleston, S.C., on Jan. 14, 2016. Photo: Timothy A. Clary/AFP via Getty Images)

Former President Trump has endorsed Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-Fla.) 2022 re-election, in a statement released on Friday.

Why it matters: Rubio was already seen as the frontrunner in the 2022 Senate race as Trump decided to back the senator. Both Trump and Rubio are viewed as possible candidates for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

What he's saying: "It is my honor to give U.S. Senator Marco Rubio my Complete and Total Endorsement... Marco will never let the great people of Florida, or our Country, down!"

  • Trump calls Rubio "a tireless advocate for the people of Florida, fighting to cut taxes, supporting our Second Amendment, our Military and our Vets, a strong national defense, and all of the forgotten men and women of America."

Trump endorses Sen. Ron Johnson for reelection

Former President Trump on Thursday endorsed Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson (R) for 2022 reelection — despite the fact that Johnson has not publicly announced he will actually launch a bid.

Between the lines: Johnson made a vow when first elected to the Senate that he would only serve two terms. His second term will end in 2022. But the senator in recent months hasn't completely sworn off the idea of another term.

Trump endorses ally Mo Brooks in Alabama U.S. Senate race

Former President Trump on Wednesday endorsed Rep. Mo Brooks' campaign for U.S. Senate in Alabama, saying in a statement that "few Republicans have as much COURAGE and FIGHT" as the congressman.

Why it matters: Both Brooks and rival candidate Lynda Blanchard, a businesswoman and Trump's former ambassador to Slovenia, had pushed hard to win the endorsement of Trump, who won 60% of the vote in Alabama in the 2020 presidential election.

Unvaccinated athletes face 21-day quarantine at Beijing Olympics

Athletes, staff members and journalists at the 2022 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games who have not been vaccinated against the coronavirus will be required to quarantine for three weeks, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) outlined in its newly-published "playbooks."

Why it matters: The quarantine period is longer than the Games themselves, meaning vaccinations or an earlier arrival date will be required to participate in or cover the Games.
