Democratic megadonor Tom Steyer won't run for office this year, choosing instead to pour $30 million into a targeted effort to help Democrats win back control of Congress, per The Washington Post. Steyer had previously floated running for governor or senator in his home state of California.
Why it matters: Steyer has already invested millions in a campaign to get President Trump impeached, but his new effort could have a more immediate impact by working to raise millennial turnout in important congressional swing districts across the country — including in "purple areas" like south Florida and the Philadelphia suburbs.
