C.H. Robinson Worldwide isn't ruling out more M&A as it digests its $5.8 billion acquisition of RXO, CEO Dave Bozeman tells Axios Pro.

The big picture: Monday's deal by North America's largest third-party logistics (3PL) provider will transform the freight brokerage landscape after a nearly five-year pause in dealmaking.

Axios Pro: What do this and other large 3PL dealmaking mean for the logistics and brokerage industry?

Bozeman: "You'll probably continue to see consolidation within the industry.

There is a call on quality right now. Supply chains are getting complex. Shippers want to make sure you have a financially healthy balance sheet, something that can provide them solutions."

 Is there more dealmaking to come this year or next year?

This obviously is a large deal that we have to consume and digest, and we'll be doing that. That takes resources to do that. But that doesn't take away our agility. 

If there is something that is a strategic tuck-in — like a DeSpir — that we feel is right, and we have to get that, and it happens to be a year and a half out, I can't sit here and tell you that we won't do that."

Did you kick the tires on any of the other large 3PLs?

"We are always kicking the tires on small, medium and large targets.

What I'm more excited about is in two years, when we actually go in and integrate — and we expect it'll close first half of '27, and then be mid-teen accretive by end of '28 — that's when it's going to be real exciting."

Do you expect a lengthy regulatory review, and would you be willing to divest anything to get this deal done?

"I do not expect a lengthy regulatory review. I think this is a very clean deal. They say three to six months — I'm hoping that that's on the bottom end of that. 

I don't know that we'll have to divest anything to get to that because I think the the facts in this case will make this again a clean deal."

Obviously, Robinson's snowflake is a really strong brand in what we do around the world, and that's going to play into a lot of that book of business, particularly when it comes to freight brokerage. 

But you look at Expedite and Last Mile — they do that very well, and that's something that we'll be looking at because I like their brand penetration in a number of those those capabilities."
