At least 2 rainbow flags have been burned at a Harlem gay bar, prompting New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) to announce Saturday the state's hate crimes task force will investigate the incident.

The big picture: Friday's apparent arson attack occurred a day before the LGBTQ community marked Pride month, commemorating the Stonewall riots in New York City, which occurred at the end of June 1969 — widely considered the most important event leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for LGBTQ rights in the United States.
