President Trump is ahead of all Democratic 2020 candidates in a USA Today/Suffolk University poll published Monday.

Why it matters: The poll of 1,000 registered voters was conducted Dec. 10–14 as House Democrats prepared stepped up their case for the president's impeachment. It's a boost for Trump ahead of the impeachment vote, expected Wednesday.

Exclusive poll: Black Americans motivated by Trump to vote in 2020

A majority of black Americans are more interested in voting in the 2020 presidential election than they were in 2016, according to a national survey of 1200 black voters and non-voters conducted by Third Way and the Joint Center.

Why it matters: Black voter turnout declined significantly in 2016 nationally and in key swing states, ultimately contributing to Hillary Clinton's loss to Donald Trump. New details from focus groups and polling suggests that the motivation to remove Trump from office is firing up black Americans to head to the polls next November.

Biden only Democrat beating Trump in Florida, Virginia polls

Former Vice President Joe Biden is the only 2020 Democratic candidate beating President Trump in polls of Florida and Virginia published by Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy on Tuesday.

Why it matters: The 42 electoral votes between the two swing states could prove pivotal in the 2020 election. Trump carried Florida by about a point in 2016, while his opponent Hillary Clinton won by about 5 points in Virginia.
