Raleigh! It’s Friday. We’re one work day away from Mother’s Day weekend.
- Today's weather: Mostly cloudy with a high near 87. Showers and storms possible after 1pm.
Situational awareness: The North Carolina Courage will host the NWSL Challenge Cup Final in Cary on Saturday. They'll play the Washington Spirit and it'll air on CBS.
- 🎓 It’s also graduation weekend for the many universities in the Triangle, so expect more visitors and traffic in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.

1 big thing: 🛒 Wegmans gains ground in the Triangle

Walmart and Harris Teeter remain the top grocery destinations in the Raleigh area.
Yes, but: New York-based Wegmans has gained traction two years after opening its first store in the region.
Driving the news: 21.1% of grocery spending in the Raleigh metro last year was at Walmart, according to new data released by sales tracking firm Chain Store Guide.
- Harris Teeter came in second at 20.3%. Food Lion was third.
- However, the top three grocers all saw their market share decrease in the past year.
Why it matters: The Triangle's surging population has made it one of the more competitive grocery markets in the country, Roger Beahm, director of Wake Forest University's Retail Learning Labs, tells Axios.
What they're saying: "Wegmans has had a really strong performance, especially when you divide their sales dollars by the number of stores," Beahm said.

2. 🥵 5 yoga studios to sweat out stress
Photo: Lucille Sherman/Axios
Clear your head after a stressful day at one of Raleigh's many hot yoga studios. Just be prepared to sweat. Bring water and a towel — or rent one from any of these spots when you arrive.
1. 110 Yoga
- Located off Blount Street, 110 Yoga is a great place to hit up if you work or live in downtown Raleigh. With an additional location in Durham, 110 emphasizes proper alignment in every pose.
2. DOSE Yoga and Smoothie Bar
- DOSE is the newest hot yoga spot in town, and it was the first business to open in Raleigh’s new Glenwood South-adjacent, Smoky Hollow district in March.
- Beyond being a beautiful space, the studio is particularly dangerous for all of our wallets because it doubles as a smoothie bar.
Lucille's favorite post-yoga smoothie is the Blueberry Yum Yum with vanilla protein.
Keep reading for more hot yoga studios to try.

Don't have flowers for Mother's Day figured out yet? Here are some spots where you can pick up last-minute blooms this weekend:
- State Farmers Market: Pick up strawberries for a Mother's Day cake and grab flowers all in one stop. A handful of booths have bouquets available. Last year, they started around $20.
- Blossom & Bone Florals: Based in Durham, Blossom & Bone has Mother's Day arrangements you can order online starting at $45.
- TG Floristry: This Black-owned flower shop and studio in Raleigh will be open Friday, Saturday and part of Sunday for in-store shopping.
- Bottom of the Fox Farm: Expect to see this flower farm pop up at Oak City Brewing Company in Knightdale Friday from 5:30-8:30pm. If you're really calling it close, they'll be at Fire Clay Cellars in Siler City on Sunday from 2-5 pm.
- Of note: They also have weekly flower subscriptions (hint hint, Lucille's husband!).
- Pine State Flowers: Swing by this Durham-based shop to pick up some flowers. They'll be open Friday through Sunday.

🐂 Durham venture capital firm Bull City Venture Partners has raised $50 million to invest in startups. (Techcrunch)
- Zach's thought bubble: Bull City, led by Jason Caplain and David Jones, has been one of the most active local investors in recent years. A good chunk of this money should find its way into local startups.

5. 👀 Scoop: Durham congressional race’s first poll

State Sen. Valerie Foushee is leading the North Carolina Fourth Congressional District's Democratic primary by 19 points, according to a new poll released to Axios by EMILY's List.
- EMILY’s List, which is driven by a mission of electing pro-choice, female candidates, has endorsed Foushee in the race.
Why it matters: With just over a week until North Carolina’s primary election, the poll shows that an influx of outside money being poured into the race might pay off for Foushee at the polls.
- The Fourth District, which includes Durham and Chapel Hill, is solidly Democratic, so whoever wins the primary is all but guaranteed a win in November, too.
- The race is also reflective of an internal battle between moderate and liberal wings of the Democratic party.
Context: Durham County Commissioner Nida Allam — who is running further left than Foushee— is polling at 16%.
- She has been endorsed by the likes of Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.
- Allam, 28, is the first Muslim woman elected in North Carolina. If she wins the May 17 primary, she would be one of the youngest members of Congress.
- Still, 30% of voters remain undecided.
