Why it matters: Many Americans are still wary of attending large, in-person gatherings like concerts.

• Just 33% say they'd be comfortable with an indoor concert after the pandemic, per a recent Performance Research survey.

These virtual experiences are no small affair. Pop star Dua Lipa put on a virtual concert for 5 million viewers in November 2020.

• It cost $1.5 million and took five months of prep, reports Rolling Stone.
• Concert tickets for Dua Lipa's tour spiked 70% after her livestreamed concert.

Virtual can also be a more intimate way for artists to connect with fans.

• Brandi Carlile did a virtual Christmas show last year where she was sitting at home casually just like the members of her audience.
• "It really felt like we were just sitting in Brandi's home," Mark Neese of Okemos, Michigan, told USA Today.

The bottom line: Tickets for in-person shows are selling rapidly now, but look for virtual show production to become a growing part of the post-COVID world.

Not your usual bobcat den: Biologists studying Southern California bobcats found a mother and three kittens this spring in a cavity up in a tree, AP reports.

• Their dens are usually found in hollow areas of thick chaparral or coastal sage or in woodrat nests made of piles of sticks and leaves.

Scientists believe the bobcat used the cavity because little vegetation has grown since the Woolsey Fire ravaged the Santa Monica Mountains and Simi Hills.
