1 big thing: Miami Music Week is back
I finally made it to Disco Domingo and it was everything I hoped it would be — and then some.
- The crowd was energetic. The vibes were groovy. An aerial hair hanger under a disco ball. The weather was perfect.
Why it matters: The event's fourth edition, held at River House Wine & Bar, kicked off Miami Music Week (for me, at least) and set the tone for the six-day music marathon.
State of play: The annual music showcase begins Tuesday and runs through Sunday.
- The schedule — anchored by Ultra Music Festival at Bayfront Park — includes events in just about every genre at venues across town, but favors EDM, techno and house music.
Meanwhile, the Winter Music Conference at the Kimpton Hotel in downtown Miami is also this week, with a range of panels, workshops, networking events and pool parties to choose from.
- A few sanctioned events are also scheduled at venues across the city.
Planning your Music Week can be a bit daunting, so we singled out a few events to help you plan.
Perreo Del Futuro: Artist Six Sex headlines this event at The Ground, bringing her high-energy club beats to the classic reggaeton genre.
- Wednesday, 11pm. Tickets: $14+.
ZeyZey's daily lineup starts Wednesday with acts like A-Trak & Friends and A.M. Radio on Saturday.
- Ticket prices and times vary.
Factory Town has a five-night lineup at its five stages with Justice kicking off the festivities with a DJ set Wednesday night.
- Wednesday–Sunday, times vary. Tickets: $64.99+.
Resistance: This featured Music Week event takes over M2 on Miami Beach for the third year, with a lineup of artists every night.
- Wednesday–Sunday, times vary. Tickets: $38+.
Arlo After Dark returns with Eli Fola and Aqutie for an open-air sunset concert.
- Thursday, Art Wynwood, 5pm–11pm. Tickets: $30.
Ministry of Sound x Hard Times: The collaboration between two international house music institutions is part of Ministry of Sound's 35th anniversary world tour, with Dennis Ferrer and Derrick Carter anchoring the event.
- Friday, 7pm. Tickets: $48+.
Black Coffee is back with Carlita & Kaz James at the Racetrack at Hialeah Park Casino.
- Saturday, 6pm–1am. Tickets: $85.
2. 🏗️ What's going up
Another day, another batch of development news to keep on your radar as a Miami resident.
- Here's a roundup of the latest across the 305.
Publix Super Markets: The grocery store giant filed plans with Miami-Dade County for a 55,000-square-foot grocery and liquor store on Biscayne Boulevard near North Miami, the South Florida Business Journal reported.
- The project would be part of a mixed-use development that is slated to include more than 400 apartments.
Yaeger Plaza: City and county officials this week are set to join the developers behind Yaeger Plaza, a new affordable rental project in Liberty City, for its groundbreaking, according to the City of Miami.
- The project, at 1177 NW 62 St., spans 1.25 acres and is named after the Yaeger Clinic, a neighborhood medical facility that offered health care to the community for several decades.
- The project, which will cost upward of $59 million, is set to be completed in 2029 and will include 135 affordable rental units for families earning 22% to 80% of the area median income.
1401 Brickell by Santander: Brickell's forthcoming newest building is expected to break ground early next month.
- The 50-story project includes more than 1.6 million square feet of office, retail and parking space and will house Santander employees and businesses.
3. Cafecito: Trump, Suarez to speak at international summit
🎤 President Trump and former Miami Mayor Francis Suarez are set to speak at the Saudi-Arabia-backed Future Investment Initiative (FII) Institute Priority "Capital in Motion" Summit this weekend. (Miami New Times)
- The event, back for its fourth edition, will be at the Faena Hotel and Forum in Miami Beach (Wednesday-Friday).
🤑 A waterfront double-lot on the Venetian Islands sold for $24.5 million with plans for an 11,000-square-foot mansion. (The Real Deal)
📉 South Florida women-founded startups raised $475 million in 2025 from venture capital investors, a drop of about 40% from 2024. (South Florida Business Journal)
4. ⛽ Gas price update
Most Americans will likely soon be paying over $4 per gallon as the war in Iran drives one of the sharpest gas price surges in recent history.
State of play: Prices were relatively low — below $3 on average — when the war began, so they're still below historic highs despite a more than 25% increase since the war began.
- Prices spiked to around $5 per gallon at the start of the war in Ukraine, for example.
- But gas prices are one of the most visible and keenly felt forms of inflation, and have a disproportionate impact on lower-income households.
Zoom in: The current average of prices in Miami-Dade is $3.92, according to AAA, up from about $3.70 a week ago and $2.89 one month ago.
Zoom out: In Florida, the current average is $3.934, just under the national average of $3.96, per AAA.
- A month ago, statewide prices averaged $2.87.
By the numbers: Majorities of Americans think gas prices are already too high (80%), that they're likely to increase in the next few months (67%), and that Trump is to blame for the increases (60%), according to a Yahoo/YouGov poll.
- Meanwhile, 56% of Americans disapprove of Trump's handling of Iran, vs. 36% who approve, according to a separate Economist/YouGov poll.
