1 big thing: π Dine Out Hollywood arrives
It's time to say goodbye to Dine Out Lauderdale and hello to Dine Out Hollywood.
Why it matters: The month-long restaurant promotion allows diners to try restaurants around town at budget-friendly prices.
State of play: From Oct. 1-Oct. 31, Dine Out Hollywood offers three-course prix fixe meals at a dozen local restaurants.
- Some restaurants offer the three-course prix fixe menu at lunch and dinner.
- Each menu comes with an appetizer, entree and dessert.
- The menus range from $25 to $60, which doesn't include gratuity, drinks and tax.
The big picture: Hollywood's restaurant program begins just as the popular Dine Out Lauderdale ends on Sept. 30.
The list of participating restaurants:
- Villa Romana Restaurant
- Redwood Bar & Kitchen
- Aura Lounge & Restaurant
- ChileLimon Fusion
- Twin Peaks Hollywood

2. π See Panthers for less
The Panthers may be among the NHL's top teams, but seeing them in action won't cost you an arm and a leg.
Why it matters: It costs a family of four $262 to see the Panthers β the sixth-lowest price in the league, according to a new report.
Zoom in: The total includes $180 for four tickets, $10 parking, $26 for two beers, $14 for two sodas and $32 for four hot dogs.
- But the team does have some of the league's priciest food and drinks, the report found.
Zoom out: A family of four would spend the least to see the Ottawa Senators at $183, while they would spend the most to see the Montreal Canadiens at $732, followed by the New York Rangers at $584.
State of play: The Panthers open the NHL season against the reigning Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh, North Carolina, at 5pm on Tuesday night.
- The team's home opener is on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 6pm against the Minnesota Wild.
Yes, but: If the Panthers are as good as many expect, be prepared for ticket prices to increase.
The fine print: The report used on SeatGeek's "lowest price" averages across 2022β2025 regular-season home games per team and cross-checked against TickPick for select markets.
- Bookies.com used its 2025-2026 arena survey for concession and parking prices.
3. Broadwalking: π Achane out for seasn

4. π Girls flag football on the rise

Girls flag football has become the fastest-growing high school sport, as tens of thousands take up a game that barely had a varsity footprint a few years ago, my Axios colleague Brad Jennings writes.
Why it matters: Few girls high school sports have moved from niche to mainstream so quickly, broadening athletic opportunities in the process.
By the numbers: More than 102,000 girls played high school flag football in 2025-26, a 551% increase in the past four years, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations.
Catch up quick: In 2024, just 12 states sanctioned high school girls flag football.
- Today, 23 states plus Washington, D.C., sanction it as an official varsity sport, and 3,990 schools reported participants in 2025-26.
The intrigue: Florida was the first state to recognize girls flag football as a varsity sport in 2003, according to multiple outlets.
State of play: The NFL is backing its growth, too. It has invested millions to launch and expand high school programs, and featured the sport in its Super Bowl commercials.
Reality check: It's not yet clear whether flag football is mostly creating new high school athletes or pulling girls from established sports.
π Naomi's fun fact: While I never played flag football, I spent many weekends growing up playing football with my neighbor and starting Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II.
- That's what happens when you have an older brother.
