1 big thing: Construction begins on Universal Kids Resort in Frisco

Construction is underway on Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Universal Destinations & Experiences' first theme park dedicated to families with young children.
Why it matters: The Universal theme park fits in with Frisco's branding as a burgeoning sports and entertainment town. The city is already home to the Texas Rangers Double-A affiliate Frisco RoughRiders, FC Dallas' Toyota Stadium, the Dallas Cowboys practice facility at The Star and the Omni PGA Resort.
- About 7 million people visit Frisco every year. Mayor Jeff Cheney expects the addition of the Universal Kids Resort will push that number up to 10 million.
Driving the news: Frisco city leaders and Universal executives shared the logo and a construction update at a news conference Friday.
- Crews broke ground last month.
Catch up fast: The plans for a family-oriented resort were announced in January. Some residents complained during public zoning hearings that the park could cause traffic congestion and seemed geared for visitors and not residents.
- The Frisco City Council approved the zoning for the theme park in March.
- The city and its development corporations will give $12.7 million in economic incentives to Universal for the completion of the project.
Details: The park will take up less than half of Universal's 97-acre site off the Dallas North Tollway at Panther Creek Parkway.
- The site will have a 300-room hotel and more than 4,000 parking spaces.

By the numbers: Frisco expects to receive $3 million in property and sales tax revenues every year from the park.
- Universal expects to hire 175 full-time employees and 1,400 seasonal and part-time workers.
- Universal execs wouldn't divulge the cost of the project, but Frisco expects the company to invest at least $550 million for construction.
What's next: City records show the park should open no later than June 30, 2026.
- Universal executives said they will release more details over time about the themes of the "immersive" lands throughout the resort. We expect there will be a lot of minions.
2. 💸 A Fort Worth woman's $59 million wedding

People are still talking about a Fort Worth woman's "wedding of the century" last month that included a welcome dinner at the historic Paris Opera House, Maroon 5 singing "She Will Be Loved" during the first dance and touches of couture everywhere.
Why it matters: Fort Worth has a lot of wealthy families, but their lives are rarely the subject of headlines.
- Social media users who didn't know anything about the Brockways before the Nov. 18 wedding have gone down many rabbit holes to learn about their background and quantify their wealth.
- Business Today estimated that the wedding cost $59 million.
Zoom in: The bride, Madelaine Brockway, graduated from All Saints' Episcopal School in 2014 and Texas Christian University in 2022. Her LinkedIn profile says she's an entrepreneur based in Fort Worth.
- All Saints lists Brockway's mom, Paula, as the vice president of its board of trustees.
- The Brockway family has been in the car dealership business in South Florida for generations.
- Less is known about the groom, Jacob LaGrone, whose outdated LinkedIn profile says he attended the University of Mississippi and has worked in country music.
Details: Brockway's multiday bachelorette trip in Utah included a "Pretty in Pink" party, "Aliens Amongst Us" night and a Marie Antoinette-themed Halloween party.
- In Paris, Brockway treated family and close friends to private visits to Chanel and Dior. Wedding guests also got private tours of Paris and a stay at the Palace of Versailles.
- The wedding ceremony was at a château outside Paris. An elaborate light display commemorating the occasion included Ole Miss and TCU references.
3. ⚽ U.S. Women's team taking on China in Frisco

The U.S. Women's National Team will feature a homegrown talent when it faces China tomorrow night at Toyota Stadium.
Why it matters: The women's team is still reeling from a disappointing performance at last summer's World Cup, when the U.S. exited in the round of 16 after losing to Sweden in penalties.
- The match in Frisco is the second of two friendlies the U.S. and China play over four days. The first was Saturday night in Fort Lauderdale, which the U.S. won 3-0.
The big picture: Some of the team's best-known players, like Megan Rapinoe, have retired from international play.
Yes, but: Jaedyn Shaw, one of the young prospects hoping to return the U.S. team to glory, is from Frisco.
- She's only made two appearances for the national team but already has a goal — a clever toe-poke against Colombia in October.
What they're saying: "It will be extremely special to play in my home town. I'm super excited, I have a lot of family there," Shaw told the Dallas Morning News.
- She says she's already received many requests for tickets to the game.
If you go: Tickets start at $35.
