1 big thing: π Ex-Hornet players' Charlotte home
This south Charlotte mansion could be yours for $3,795,000.
Why it matters: The Olde Providence South property belongs to former NBA player Gerald Henderson Jr., according to property records.
Context: Henderson, a former Duke standout, was selected 12th overall in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Bobcats. He spent six seasons with Charlotte before he was traded to the Portland Trailblazers.
- He retired in 2019 after a season with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Zoom in: The shooting guard was traded in 2015 for Nicolas Batum, who also listed his Lake Norman mansion for $6 million earlier this year.
Layout: Inside Henderson's 7,246-square-foot home, there are six bedrooms and six and a half bathrooms.
- The modern home has undergone several renovations. It has a bright open floor plan, new light fixtures, an oversized kitchen island plus a spacious walk-in closet with a chandelier.
Features: Outside you'll find a new pool, pool house, sports court and guest house. There's also golf cart access to Carmel Country Club.
2. π° Carolina Renaissance Festival is back
Starting today, you can harken back to ye olde times at Carolina Renaissance Festival in Huntersville.
What to expect: Ren Fest has been a Charlotte-area fall tradition since 1993. More than 1,000 artists (including 500+ interactive costumed characters) bring the fictional village of Fairhaven to life with performance stages, hands-on games and rides, an artisan marketplace and plenty of food.
If you go: The festival takes place Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 3-Nov. 22 from 9:30am-5:30pm at 16445 Poplar Tent Road.
- Day passes are $23.99 for kids ages 5 to 12 and $37.99 for adults. Parking is free.

3. π₯ Drinks before events at Spectrum Center
A cocktail bar called Peace & Saint is now open in Uptown.
Context: The Triangle-based cocktail lounge expanded to First Ward earlier this year, adding a Charlotte location to its other spots in Raleigh and Durham.
What to expect: A seasonal drink menu with about 10 cocktails starting at $14, such as a key lime martini and margaritas, plus beer, wine and nonalcoholic options.
- The space has plenty of lounge seating, with patio seating on the way. There's also hookah and a live DJ most nights.
My thought bubble: If you're already paying for hours of parking in Uptown, make the most of it. Peace & Saint is steps from Spectrum Center, making it a clutch spot to grab a drink before or after an upcoming concert or event.
Stop by: Find Peace & Saint at 350 E 6th St #1. It's open Tuesday to Thursday 6pm-1am, Friday and Saturday 5pm-2am and Sunday 1-6pm and 8pm-1am. Closed on Mondays.
4. π Pic du jour: Tryna catch me ridin' dirty
With regular gas averaging a little over $4 per gallon, according to AAA, some people appear to be getting creative with alternative modes of transportation.
Driving the news: CMPD recently stopped two men riding down South Tryon Street on a couch that was attached to two Lime Scooters.
What they're saying: CMPD applauded the creativity but urged people to put safety first β and maybe leave the mobile furniture displays to IKEA.
- "No matter what you're 'driving' (using that term extremely loosely π ), please think about safety first," CMPD wrote in a Facebook post.
- Police added that unconventional rides can also distract other drivers and create a safety risk.
