The four U.S. military branches have set deadlines for when service members need to be vaccinated against COVID-19, after Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's announcement last month that the Pentagon is mandating the shot for troops.

Driving the news: The U.S. Army has imposed a Dec. 15 deadline for all active-duty service members and a June 30 deadline for National Guard service members, the Army said in a press release Tuesday.

  • The U.S Airforce earlier this month announced a Nov. 2 deadline for active-duty service members. Others are required to be inoculated by Dec. 2.
  • The U.S Navy and Marine Corps had also imposed a Nov. 28 deadline for active-duty service members to be fully vaccinated. Reserve members have until Dec. 28.

Denver city employees' vaccine payout program put on ice

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock may have made a promise he can’t keep.

Driving the news: On Tuesday, a blindsided Denver City Council committee hit the brakes on Hancock’s proposal to pull $5 million worth of taxpayer money from the city’s rainy day fund and disperse it as $400 bonuses to city employees who are fully immunized against COVID-19 or exempt from getting the vaccine.

Axios interview: Facebook to try for more transparency

Nick Clegg, Facebook's vice president of global affairs, tells me the company will try to provide more data to outside researchers to scrutinize the health of activity on Facebook and Instagram, following The Wall Street Journal's brutal look at internal documents.

Driving the news: Clegg didn't say that in his public response to the series. So I called him to push for what Facebook will actually do differently given the new dangers raised by The Journal.

The Exvangelicals

Even as evangelicals maintain their position as the most popular religion in the U.S., a movement of self-described "exvangelicals" is breaking away, using social media to engage tens of thousands of former faithful.

The big picture: Donald Trump's presidency, as well as movements around LGBTQ rights, #MeToo and Black Lives Matter, drew more Americans into evangelical churches while also pushing some existing members away.
