Union Market is getting a new boutique hotel.
Why it matters: There's long been chatter about plans for the area surrounding the former Motel 6 that sits near the entrance to Union Market off New York Avenue.
- The space was transformed into a design pop-up last year.
State of play: Late Checkout and No. 31 — a hotel and cocktail bar-meets-lounge space, respectively — are expected to open next spring, per a release.
- Residents Hospitality group, behind scene-y spots like Residents Cafe & Bar and the River Club, will bring Riviera vibes to No. 31.
- Expect multiple bars, Mediterranean food, and an outdoor lounge area with a water feature.
Plus, you'll find 30 design-heavy guest rooms at Late Checkout, spearheaded by the local property management group Sojourn Hospitality.
Zoom out: Edens — the developer behind much of Union Market — has plans to eventually overhaul the space into a bigger mixed-use development, reports Washington Business Journal.
