NPS to remove Dupont's Stumpy after storm cracked tree

Pour one out for Dupont's Stumpy.

Why it matters: The felled tree drew a flurry of mourners, pinning dozens of notes of appreciation like, "I'll miss you," and "thank you for the years of shade," and also, "you were the perfect place to smoke my jays."

One note urged the National Park Service: "DO NOT REMOVE."

Alas, NPS tells us the "remaining stump will be removed."

A new tree will take its place.

"The cleanup and replanting will take place as resources and scheduling allow as crews continue responding to storm related needs across the city," NPS says.
