After a decade of rumors, Eataly sets an opening date in Tysons

It's happening — Eataly announced it will open its first-ever D.C.-area location in Tysons Corner Center next year.

Why it matters: Washingtonians have been waiting more than a decade for the Italian food hall. After years of rumors — and dozens of Eataly openings around the world — it's finally our turn.

Driving the news: The Italian marketplace will take over the former American Girl store, filling a prime two-level space with its own exterior entrance.

Expect Eataly's signature mix of restaurants, quick-grab counters, cafés and a sprawling Italian market, all built around its "eat, shop, learn" philosophy.

The big picture: What started in Turin, Italy, in 2007 has grown into nearly 70 locations across 16 countries, including 20 in the U.S.

Tysons joins the brand as the massive mall undergoes a $100 million makeover.

🍝 Thought bubble: Having visited locations from NYC to Rome, Eataly isn't just another food hall. It's more of an Italian theme park for people who get jazzed about sliced-to-order mortadella, house-made mozzarella and every pasta shape imaginable.
