George Washington's $1,000 whiskey is out now

State of play: The reconstructed distillery is releasing a series of collectible, small-batch spirits this year.

🥃 Just dropped: George Washington's Spirit of '76, a single-barrel, cask-strength bourbon.

• It's the first bourbon released from Mount Vernon's reconstructed distillery — which regularly produces ryes — and fewer than 350 bottles were produced.
• Each bottle was distilled, aged for seven years and hand-bottled on-site using 18th-century methods. Tasters note hints of "sweetness, spice and oak."
• Bring your wallet: It costs $1,000 and is only available for purchase in person at the Shops at Mount Vernon.
• Spokespersons tell Axios only 150 bottles are remaining as of July 10 — and when they're gone, they're gone.

Between the lines: Not ready to drop a grand? Mount Vernon also sells its Commander-in-Chief Single Barrel Straight Rye for $300 (in person and online).

• Distilled and bottled using 18th-century techniques, it's aged eight years — the longest of any whiskey the distillery has released.

What's next: A Madeira-finished rye whiskey is slated for release in October.

If you go: Visitors can tour the working distillery and gristmill — located nearly three miles from the main Mount Vernon estate — and sample its spirits during select tastings.
