Ahead of this summer'sFreedom 250 Grand Prix, Danish IndyCar driver Christian Rasmussen recently took a preview lap of the never-before-built route.
"We went around in just a normal car," Rasmussen told Cuneyt inside Capital One Arena, where a star-spangled Chevrolet is parked on display.
🏁 The circuit for the Aug. 22–23 race zooms through the heart of monumental D.C. — a long stretch down Pennsylvania Avenue, with turns near the Capitol, iconic Smithsonian museums, and federal landmarks.
Spectators should "expect a great racing product," Rasmussen says — because "you can actually get pretty close to the cars and the track."
🚧 Meanwhile, Capital One Arena is closing down soon (unless the Caps make the playoffs) as its renovation project revs up. Major work is planned this summer on the exterior and main entrance at 7th and F Streets.
Full completion is expected by the 2027–28 NBA/NHL seasons.
