Let the pros handle the latkes — and everything else this year.

Why it matters: We love brisket. But we love it even more when a chef is doing the work.

Catering: We love Silver and Sons BBQ in Bethesda for their Jewish-Mediterranean riffs on classics like poached cod with spiced tomato sauce and slow-smoked lamb shanks (menu, pick up Dec. 14 and Dec. 19).

Dine-in: Modern Israeli restaurant Sababa in Cleveland Park serves Hanukkah specials like braised brisket or spiced salmon alongside the regular menu (Dec. 14-22).

Gifting: Baked by Yael, a nut-free Kosher bakery in Woodley Park, offers Hanukkah-themed cake pops, cookies, challah and beautiful hand-carved wooden menorahs and challah boards from the owner's father.

A sweet treat to go: Astro's annual "Hanukkah mini box" — 12 mini doughnuts for $35 — is back in Shirlington and D.C. with flavors like jelly and crème brûlée, plus dreidels and gelt.
