"Jewish Christmas" is almost here — and no, we don't mean Hanukkah.
Why it matters: For many American Jews, Dec. 25 is a sacred day for two things: Chinese food and movies.
Zoom in: The DMV is loaded with excellent Chinese restaurants — and many are open Christmas Eve and Day.
- Reservations and online pre-orders are encouraged when available.
Some of Anna's favorites:
🥟 A&J Restaurant (Rockville, Annandale): Superb dim sum, made to order, is a big draw at these cozy restaurants. Go for buns, dumplings, Peking wraps and spicy beef noodle soup.
🥣 Bob's Shanghai 66 (Rockville): You're here for soup dumplings — go for pork "XLB" and pork-crab, and then feast on "Shanghainese tapas" or steaming wonton soups.
🧧 Han Palace (Woodley Park, Georgetown, Tysons, Barracks Row): Feast on all-you-can-eat dim sum at these Cantonese restaurants, plus wide-ranging menus of duck, noodles and other specialties.
🥡 Holy Chow (Silver Spring): Christmas is this Kosher-Chinese carryout's Super Bowl. Order in advance (no dine-in).
🦆 Peking Gourmet Inn (Falls Church): A famous duck house with a VIP wall — though everyone goes for Christmas (go early). Birds carved table-side are a must, plus shrimp with garlic shoots and Scorpion bowls.
🔥 Peter Chang restaurants (DMV): Szechuan lovers flock to Bethesda's Q by Peter Chang, Fairfax's Mama Chang and DMV Peter Chang restaurants for scallion bubble pancakes, dry-fry pots and ma po tofu.
